Dean Hayes at Rocket Mortgage is a family friend, and we are in many of the same networking groups. In 2024, I gave a presentation on local SEO to one of those groups. I talked about how there are dozens of business listing websites that could list your business information, even if you didn’t sign up for the platform. And if you aren’t actively monitoring these listings, chances are your information is inaccurate! 

Dean approached me afterward about my business listing management services. He was about to change office locations and knew his listings would need updating. Dean didn’t have time to do it himself (honestly, who does?), so he asked for help.

 

Rocket Mortgage Summary

Rocket Mortgage is a nationwide full-service home mortgage lending company. Dean Hayes is now an Executive Loan Officer with Rocket Mortgage, and was with Bay Equity Home Loans when we started working together. Rocket Mortgage has since purchased Bay Equity, so Dean was able to quickly and efficiently update all of his business listings at one time, to reflect the new brand in 2025!

Rocket Mortgage provides flexible home loan options in Skagit County, Washington and nationally. The Rocket Mortgage team helps homeowners and first-time home buyers find the right loan to fit their needs, from traditional home loans and refinancing to specialty services like VA loans and reverse mortgages. 

Dean has been helping people (including me!) with mortgage loans in Skagit Valley for my entire professional career. He is very well-known in the community for his deep focus on customer service during the complex financing process. Dean makes people feel comfortable and heard through the whole process.

 

Business Challenges

People often remember to update their Google Business Listing but they don’t realize their business could be listed in dozens of other places. Business listing sites will pull your business information proactively, without prompting you to create a profile or sign up for their service.  However, they often don’t update their information unless you reach out. And you can see the problem here – if you aren’t aware that you have a profile somewhere, you don’t know that you need to update it.

Not updating your business information means it could be outdated and/or missing key details, which could lead to a loss of leads. If someone sees your business listing and tries to click on an old URL or visit an old office space, they’ll probably be frustrated and seek another solution. 

One of the most common issues I see is inaccurate hours of operation, especially during the holidays. This is extremely frustrating!

Dean knew he was moving office buildings soon and wanted his business listings to be updated in tandem with his move, to avoid any confusion for his clients or potential clients. 

Interestingly, Dean moved offices twice in the last decade. While implementing my Business Listing solution, I found references to the office two moves (and ten years) ago! That means he was appearing in search results with a decade-old wrong address across town, and would have continued to do so had we not addressed his local SEO (you can see examples in the screenshot below).

Another problem was the name of his business. Before Bay Equity was purchased by Rocket Mortgage, Dean’s correct business name was Dean Hayes Team @ Bay Equity Home Loans. I found names across business listings such as:

  • Dean Hayes at Bay Equity
  • Dean Hayes
  • Bay Equity and Dean Hayes
  • Bay Equity

 

Dean really wanted brand consistency and accurate information about his business posted across the internet. With his focus on customer service, Dean knows that details matter. He wanted to make sure he was easy to find and represented accurately across platforms. 

 

Strategy and Implementation

The next email inquiry he got had exactly the correct business name typed out. He was so excited to have everything consistent and correct. 

Some (not all) of these business listing websites are considered backlinks for your website. By correcting his website URL, I also ensured some high-quality backlinks, which will improve his overall SEO.
