About Tulip Valley Farms
Tulip Valley Farms is a local tulip farm in Mount Vernon, Washington. As you might know, Skagit Valley is a huge destination for tulips, with our annual Tulip Festival bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors every spring.
Tulip Valley Farms is one of the four gardens included in the festival—2025 was their third year participating. They’re a new destination surrounded by other well-known farms, so it was important to them to bring awareness and foot traffic to their farm during the festival.
“Rachael has a mastery of her domain that exceeds anyone I’ve worked with in the space. She makes insightful and well-grounded suggestions and supports her assertions with data and results. 11/10 recommend without reservation.” – Andrew, CEO of Tulip Valley Farms
Challenges: Competition, Bandwidth, and Budget
Tulip Valley Farms came to me for help with their digital marketing hoping to become a well-known tulip farm and attract more visitors during this very short season (tulips bloom in April, and that’s it!) Their entire season is typically inside that one month, which is really common for farms who also offer experiences as a destination. Tulip farms in Skagit Valley are all competing for the same foot traffic, so it’s really difficult for a newer farm to enter the market with other established growers.
As a young farm, they understood the importance of marketing. Tulip Valley Farms asked me to help because they didn’t have the bandwidth or expertise to do it themselves, and they wanted to make sure their campaigns were high performing and optimized at every opportunity. Tulip season is a LOT of work —it’s more than a dawn-to-dusk job and all hands on deck for their team. Handing off their marketing to an agency made sense from both a fiscal and a resource perspective.
From a budget perspective, it can be difficult to invest in things beyond the essentials —equipment, tulip bulbs, storage, infrastructure when starting out. Now in their third year, Tulip Valley Farms was ready to prioritize their marketing and focus on growth. They also wanted a marketing strategy to build upon in the years to come.
We had to develop a strategy that would meet their goals while respecting their budget. Here’s what we came up with.
Our Digital Marketing Campaign Strategy
First, I wanted to update their Google Business Listing with my Business Listings service. Since they’re a new location, we needed to make sure everything about their farm (hours, location, attractions, cost, etc.) was accurate across the Internet. This also laid the foundation for earning new traffic to their farm organically.
Next, Tulip Valley Farms invested in Meta advertising, Google PPC, and digital display ads. Organic traffic is super important, but with such a short window to attract visitors, ads are a must.
Here was our plan for paid ads:
- We entered the market in mid-February to build awareness of Tulip Valley Farms, generate excitement around their unique experience, and help people plan their visits.
- In March, we encouraged people to plan ahead and buy their tickets before the festival started. Online tickets offer a bit of a discount over walk-ups, so we were excited to drive presales with our new visitors.
- April ads focused on attracting in-season visitors by sharing that the farm is open and showcasing the experience waiting for them! We created ads highlighting what makes Tulip Valley Farms unique, including family-friendly activities and u-pick options.
Something unique about this digital marketing campaign was the level of involvement from their organic marketing and public relations teams. We worked together to create a cohesive strategy in which ads, PR, and social media worked in sync. It’s important for all pieces to be going in the same direction for a digital marketing campaign to be successful.
Results of The Digital Marketing Campaign
As a result of our business listings and paid advertising strategies, we saw some amazing results compared to the previous year:
- 44% increase in revenue
- 11% increase in ticket sales
- 96% increase in website visits
- 25% increase in average order size
The Meta ads had a better cost per conversion, while the Google PPC ads had a better click-through rate. We’ll use this data while planning for the 2026 digital marketing campaign.
Our focus in 2025 was on growing online sales. It can be more difficult to directly track the source for walk-up traffic, but we did see an increase there as well. When you consider the overall growth in revenue, we felt great about the outcome across the board.
“Rachael’s strategy and execution for our paid digital ads and business listing service have been integral to the growth and success of our business. We have a very short money-making window, and we felt the urgency of getting it right for us. We could not ask for someone more dedicated to our success, more professional, or more informed about this constantly changing industry. It was a relief to know we had someone who knew what they were doing in our corner who not only gave us regular progress updates, but gave us REAL returns in our business.” – Vanessa Harrington, Head of Marketing at Tulip Valley Farms
What’s Next with Tulip Valley Farms?
In 2026, Tulip Valley Farms will be launching a new website and also participating in a Daffodil Festival in March, before Tulip Festival – so they’ll be very busy in the spring!
